Judo, a sport that requires physical and strategic skills, was included in the Seoul Paralympic Games, in 1988. The sport is practiced in over 30 countries by athletes of both sexes, with visual impairment, in different categories classified by weight.
The bout lasts up to five minutes and follows most of the Olympic Judo rules, with small modifications, beginning with the fact that the athlete is in contact with the opponent before the bout begins, and the bout is stopped when contact is lost. There are also no faults for athletes who go outside the combat area. The winner is the athlete who does an ippon or has the greater number of points.
