Archery

Archery is an Olympic sport based on the use of bow and arrows aimed at a target. It made its debut at the 1900 Paris Olympic Games and continued up until the 1920 Antwerp Games. Archery competitions were removed from the Games for more than 50 years, and made a comeback at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Both men and women take part in individual and team events. Competitors shoot arrows towards a target with a 1.22m diameter and a 12.2cm center located at a distance of 70m.

The arrows can travel at more than 240 kilometres per hour, which requires archers to have steady hands, strong shoulders, flexible muscles, a good aim and nerves of steel.
