The state-owned company Brazilian Post and Telegraph Corporationwas chosen as the Official Logistics Operator of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the world's greatest sports event. The outcome of a competitive tender process, which involved multinational companies, confirmed the efficiency and quality of the Brazilian Post in this sector. The operation of the 2016 Games will involve moving more than 30 million items, including all the furniture for the Olympic and Paralympic venues. The experience in transportation of various items and the successful logistical operation of the Rio 2007 Pan American Games, contributed to the development of the winning bid.
The company is undergoing an intense modernisation process since it was authorised to diversify its activities, after Law 12.490/2011 was approved by President Dilma Rousseff. To symbolise this moment of major change, the Brazilian Post changed its logo and is developing new products and solutions to meet new demands not only in Brazil but in other countries as well.
For over two decades, the Brazilian Post has been fostering the development of Brazilian sport. They are the official sponsors of water sports, tennis and handball, and support the development of athletes from grassroots to high-performance levels, while supporting schools to introduce children and teenagers to sports.
The Brazilian Post was also a pioneer in the world's biggest sporting programme of individual sponsorship, Plano Brasil Medalhas (Brazil Medal Plan), launched in 2012 by the Sports Ministry. By 2016, the company will have invested approximately US$11 million per year in preparing athletes like Cesar Cielo, Thiago Pereira, Pollyanna Okimoto, Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo, among others.
